Clinical Sleep Educator Post Test Open to Past ACCP "Becoming a Sleep Educator" Course Attendees – ONE TIME ONLY OPPORTUNITY
Previously, the American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP) sponsored an annual conference entitled Becoming A Sleep Educator.  As recognition of, and the need for, a sleep educator grew, the ACCP collaborated with the BRPT to transfer the administration and management of the program to the BRPT.  As such, the Becoming A Sleep Educator conference has evolved into the BRPT’s Clinical Sleep Educator (CSE) Certificate Program.

The BRPT’s CSE post-test will be available to eligible ACCP Becoming A Sleep Educator program attendees in early October at a cost of $40.  If you are a licensed or credentialed healthcare worker and attended a 2009-2011 sleep educator course offered by ACCP, please send an e-mail to info@BRPT.org to get your name on the list of contacts for the October post-test.  Use the words “ACCP CSE List” in the subject line, and provide your 1) Name.  2) Healthcare credential and number, or license number and state.  3) Date you attended the ACCP course and location.   4) E-mail address.   5)  Mailing address.   6) Telephone number(s).   In early October we will e-mail you a link and instructions to register for the post-test.

Following successful completion of the post-test, you will receive a certificate as a Clinical Sleep Educator.  This opportunity for previous ACCP program attendees will be available only once and will not be repeated next year.

The BRPT held its first Clinical Sleep Educator Certificate Program at the FOCUS conference in Nashville, Tennessee on May 9 and received an overwhelming response.  A second program will be offered in conjunction with BRPT’s Symposium in Reno, Nevada on September 20, and a third will be offered in 2013 on May 8 in conjunction with the Spring FOCUS conference in Nashville.

Job Task Analysis Underway
The RPSGT exam is NCCA accredited and requires periodic review and assessment based on a Job Task Analysis (JTA) to help assure BRPT is offering a valid exam, reflective of the knowledge, skills and abilities required of an RPSGT or CPSGT working in the profession.  The BRPT and Pearson VUE are collaborating to conduct a comprehensive Job Task Analysis survey that will result in the development of new exam blueprints for both the RPSGT and CPSGT exams.

The first meeting of the JTA Expert Panel – a group of 9-12 Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) who are sleep technologists with a wide range of work experience and representative of a broad geographic area and diverse backgrounds – will take place September 28 and 29 in Atlanta, Georgia.

The JTA survey will ask technologists to rank a wide range of tasks with regard to frequency and importance. The survey results are then compiled and analyzed by Pearson VUE psychometricians and reviewed by the Expert Panel.

Based on the survey results, the RPSGT and CPSGT exams will be built against new exam blueprints. The JTA process ensures BRPT is offering exams with content developed against accepted methodology and best credentialing practices.
You will be asked to participate when the survey comes out later this year: please help us get an accurate picture of our profession by completing the JTA survey when it comes to you.
