CCSH Eligibility

The Certification in Clinical Sleep Health (CCSH) examination is for healthcare providers and educators who work directly with sleep medicine patients, families, and practitioners to coordinate and manage patient care, improve outcomes, educate patients and the community, and advocate for the importance of good sleep. All applicants must agree to BRPT’s Standards of Conduct. International equivalents for eligibility are accepted.

There are 3 eligibility pathways for the CCSH exam:

Specific CCSH Eligibility Pathway Requirements

CCSH Pathway 1: Clinical Experience

Candidates must have:

  1. A minimum of 1000 hours of cumulative direct experience in clinical sleep health that includes education, counseling, management, and coordination of patient care and outcomes.
  2. A Bachelor’s degree or above. International equivalents in the form of tertiary/post secondary education or qualification are accepted.
  3. Current CPR/BLS certification for healthcare workers that follows the most recent AHA Guidelines or international equivalent.

    NOTICE: In accordance with AASM guidelines, effective January 1, 2026, BRPT will only accept BLS/CPR certifications that are in-person with a live/skills component, or that are hybrid certifications that are online but also include a live/skills component. American Heart Association’s RQI certification will remain acceptable. Live/skills components that are conducted on a mannequin will remain acceptable. We will no longer accept online-only earned BLS/CPR certifications.

Candidates are required to provide:

  1. Verification of clinical experience hours on the application. Clinical experience must be validated and approved by a clinical manager, sleep medicine practitioner, or a certified clinical sleep health (CCSH) specialist.
  2. Proof of education in the form of an official transcript, diploma, letter, or certificate from the education provider. Only the highest education level attained is required.
  3. Documentation of current CPR/BLS certification for healthcare workers that follows the most recent AHA Guidelines or international equivalent.

CCSH Pathway 2: Healthcare Credential

Candidates must have:

  1. A current healthcare credential found on the List of Approved Credentials for CCSH Pathway 2.  International equivalents are accepted, including tertiary/post secondary education or qualification in the absence of other regulation.
  2. An Associate’s degree or above. International equivalents in the form of tertiary/post secondary education or qualification are accepted.
  3. Current CPR/BLS certification for healthcare workers that follows the most recent AHA Guidelines or international equivalent.

    NOTICE: In accordance with AASM guidelines, effective January 1, 2026, BRPT will only accept BLS/CPR certifications that are in-person with a live/skills component, or that are hybrid certifications that are online but also include a live/skills component.   1. Evidence of a current CCSH Pathway 2 approved healthcare credential or license, or international equivalent.
  2. Proof of education in the form of an official transcript, diploma, letter, or certificate from the education provider. Only the highest education level attained is required.
  3. Documentation of current CPR/BLS certification for healthcare workers that follows the most recent AHA Guidelines or international equivalent.

CCSH Pathway 3: Active RPSGT Credential Holders

Candidates must have:

  1. An active RPSGT credential that has been recertified at least once.
  2. Completed a CCSH Designated STAR Education Program no more than 3 years prior to submitting exam application
  3. Current BLS/CPR certification for healthcare workers that follows the most recent AHA Guidelines or international equivalent.

    NOTICE: In accordance with AASM guidelines, effective January 1, 2026, BRPT will only accept BLS/CPR certifications that are in-person with a live/skills component, or that are hybrid certifications that are online but also include a live/skills component. American Heart Association’s RQI certification will remain acceptable. Live/skills components that are conducted on a mannequin will remain acceptable. We will no longer accept online-only earned BLS/CPR certifications.

Candidates are required to provide:

  1. Proof of completion and receiving a passing score of a CCSH Designated STAR Education Program in the form of a certificate and score report.
  2. Documentation of current CPR/BLS certification for healthcare workers that follows the most recent AHA Guidelines or international equivalent.

Recertification:

Recertification is required every five years in order to maintain the CCSH credential. Recertification may be achieved either by accumulating 50 approved continuing education credits during your 5 year credential window, or by retaking and passing the CCSH exam.
